XXI new skills.

Lifelong learning is a necessity for all citizens in a world of uncertainty. Education should provide the  skills that will serve as a basis for the future labour market. The European recommendation on key competences mentioned eight fields:

1. language communication;
2. communication in foreign languages;
3. Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology;
4. digital competences;
5. Learning to learn;
6. social and civic competences;
7.  initiative and entrepreneurship and,
8. cultural awareness and expression.

All are considered equally important. There are a number of issues involved in all “critical thinking, creativity, initiative, problem solving, risk assessment, decision making and constructive management of feelings” (Ernesto Villalba, European Commission).

New skills for new jobs.

The European Commission recently unveiled an initiative. “New skills for new jobs,” designed to anticipate the skills that tomorrow’s jobs will require. Identify appropriate combinations of skills is very important so we train and prepare people for the jobs of the future.

In a social and economical environment that changes rapidly, politicians and experts must identify and respond quickly to new and changing skill requirements for employment. Such decisions should be based on reliable information obtained through proactive investigation.

Looking for the job of the future

Nobody can accurately predict what the future holds, but everyone should be prepared and organized to avoid unintended consequences and maximize opportunities.

The sum of these individual decisions and plans will influence the way we think about Europe as a whole in the future. Master-D focuses on the implementation of some projects to meet future needs. EUCompt is the case presented in 2009 and redefined for the 2010 call.
